Minimally invasive procedure for incontinence

For the last 5 years, Dr Philip Hall, from the Pelvic Medicine Centre, has been performing a minimally invasive “walk in – walk out“ procedure  for women with certain types of urinary stress incontinence. This procedure is known as SIMS ( single incision mini-sling ).  In many other centres  these conditions are treated with a more invasive procedure known as SMUS ( standard mid-urethral sling ) . A recent paper published in European Urology  ( click here for link ) has shown equivalence  in patient-reported cure, objective cure, impact on women’s quality of life and sexual function between the two types of procedures, however the mini-sling has a quicker  recovery. Dr Hall now conducts workshops to train other Gynaecologists and Urologists to perform this procedure.
