Botulinum Toxin for Persisting Pelvic Pain

Dr Philip Hall (Gynaecologist) and Dr Jayne Berryman (Pain specialist) recently attended a workshop in Adelaide with Dr Susan Evans, Gynaecologist and Pain Specialist. (www.drsusanevans.com.au)

The muscles of the pelvic floor can be treated with Botulinum Toxin, with the aid of Ultrasound. This is one of the newly developed treatments for intractable Pelvic pain. This treatment is evolving as a great benefit to women (and men) who have had long standing symptoms not alleviated by other means. Dr Evans has recently published a paper on this topic in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Dr Berryman will be presenting at the fourth coming Women’s Health Symposium on persisting pelvic pain in women (29/8/2015).

For further information about persisting pelvic pain can be found on the recently established website of the pelvic pain foundation of Australia on www.pelvicpain.org.au

Dr Hall and Dr Berryman have now treated more than 20 patients who are reporting excellent outcomes.

This new usage of Botulinum Toxin is in addition to treatments undertaken by Pelvic Medicine Centre Doctors for urinary incontinence with overactive

bladders.
